Bungie announced a new game they’ve been working on for the past couple years at this months Playstation Showcase. It’s bright and graphic and poppy and stark and beautiful. Evocative and mysterious.
The colors are intense and the whole treatment is very striking. Very stylish.
Influences can be seen from epic scifi concept artist Chris’s Foss, some very unique takes on Cybernetics, Future Military, and Cyberpunk vibes but all set on a desolate exotic planetoid (probably?) instead of a rainy dystopian cityscape. Plenty of delightful glitchy mograph-gore here as well. (Bonus Chris Foss Ship designs that likely influenced environments)
Has a nice feeling of refined Scuba, Nerf guns, and Dazzle Camo…
The game sounds like it is a ‘extraction-shooter’ like COD DMZ or Tarkov… two games I don’t know anything about, but I definitely will look into this game and try to spend some time in this world at the very least for exploratory purposes.
Patrick and Raoul have an impressive string of works for tv/film and games and this piece does not lower the bar in any way on an already high standard of work.
And the design in the game, from environments to object and graphic design and type are all very well done. Bungie always does a good job with these smaller creature comforts for a designer like myself with excellent type and icon design, on top of great executions of art direction and design of typical world building stuff you find in a videogame (object, character, environment, vehicle design). Their games look great and this one is no exception.
You can also watch a short Vidoc here about the creation of the game.
