As the Corona Virus quickly spreads across Europe and the US, I have been trying to compile the best information possible of how to deal with the virus. Guides for how to work and behave to be safe, as well as the best information I can find from places where it has already spread widely (italy, china) as a guide to what to expect here in the united states. In order to be better prepared.
A short list of resources. Continually updating…
Some Basics:
Wash your hands, 20 seconds regular soap is just fine
Stay Home. It is healthy Asymptomatic people that seem to be responsible for a lot of the spread of Covid-19. Its not obvious that a person is contagious and yet they can pass it on. This is why everyone needs to stay home.
Keep your distance from other people. About 6 feet is a good distance.
Avoid confined spaces with other people. This cruise ships, flights, the subway. It is proximity and sharing air (recycled air) that seem to be particularly bad for spreading it.
70% Rubbing Alcohol is a great disinfectant and surface cleaner. Clean your phone, clean your desk surfaces.
It seems the virus can stay viable on surfaces for up to days and may stay active in the air for a few hours. Act as if everything you touch might be harmful and wash your hands after and do not touch your face.
Stock your pantry so you may be okay for a while stuck inside. Get food you need for a bit but do not make a run on the store and buy like the end of the world. That will make it harder for other people who also need to stock up. Supply lines are not compromised, its just we should be inside for a spell.
I have been watching Italy and China and South Korea. and assuming that what is happening there will be happening here soon. About a week, ten days out. It has helped me a lot in terms of planning and wrapping my brain around all of this.
